Happy Fall Y'all

We spent this fall soaking up the cooler weather. Hallie and the neighbor kids all came out of their summer "hibernation" and ventured back out to the cul-d-sac to play again. The neighbor kids thought it was great fun to rake our leaves, and we sure didn't mind. Most of the time it turned into more of a "jump in the pile" game, but can you blame them?

 Playing in the leaves is now one of Hallie's favorite activities.
 We also went to the pumpkin patch and spent an afternoon playing and drinking yummy apple cider. Seriously, Fall is the best!

 And finally we celebrated Halloween! Hallie was adorable as Minnie Mouse, and of course she was loaded with plenty of candy by the end of the night. It was so much fun watching her run from house to house. She did slow down for a while when her basket was getting a little too heavy, but then she realized Dad could hold the basket and she started moving a little faster again- problem solved.
We're just trying to soak this age up, mixed in with all of the tantrums and screaming there is a whole lot of sweet. I just love watching her as she experiences all of these fun new things with pure awe and no expectations.

Gatlinburg Again

In September we went to Gatlinburg again, this time for a long weekend with Grant's Family. We had so much fun playing an spending time with everyone, and after Grant brought up that it had probably been over 10 years since he had gotten to spend that much time with his dad's family. It was a very overdue trip, and we are so glad that we had this time with them!

We hiked.

Hallie did a ton of jumping on the bed with Nana J.

 Hallie was also very excited that Sadie was up for a party in Hallie's crib- literally.
 We spent a morning at the Alpine Slides, Hallie wasn't so sure about the chair lift.
 Very intense mini-golf was played
 The cutest little golfer I've ever seen!

 The condos that we stayed in all had huge bathtubs like this. Hallie's favorite part of the whole trip really might have been bath time.
The whole group. It was seriously such a fun trip. We are so grateful that it ended up working out! Let's do it again next year!

Baby Brother

In June, we found out that we would be adding another baby to our family. Grant had been begging for another baby since January, but I needed a little more time to get used to the idea. After a few months of thinking and praying about it I knew that, yes there was another little one waiting, and even jumping at the chance to join our family (this kid must be crazy). I am still a little overwhelmed by the idea of taking care of two kids, but I am grateful for the assurances that we have received that this little person is very much so supposed to be with our family at this time.
Within minutes of finding out, Grant began teaching Hallie to say "big sister", a title which she has really taken hold of in the last few weeks. This pregnancy has been very similar to Hallie's. I was sicker than sick from 6-14 weeks, and then just pretty miserable from 14-20 weeks. Because of the similarities to my pregnancy with Hallie I was kind of hopeful that we were having another girl (I had daydreams of two little girls who would be best friends. There's nothing in the world quite like "sister love"), but my gut instinct was that it was a boy. In October we had our ultrasound, and we are definitely having a very healthy baby BOY! I am working on wrapping my brain around this, and have realized that maybe a girl and a boy won't be so bad. Hallie has a pretty strong personality and now that we've really thought about it she probably would have a harder time adjusting to another "princess" in the house vs. a little brother.
Our only problem now is a name. When Grant and I were dating, he began telling me that he wanted a wiener dog that he could fatten up until it's stomach dragged on the ground, and a boy named Hank some day. Any one who knows Grant, knows that the best tactic for dealing with him is to assume that he is joking 99% of the time. So, I assumed he was joking. BUT, he kept bringing it up, and really I am not a dog person, and Hank is a terrible name, and things were starting to get pretty serious between us so I figured I needed to call him out on this one. My opportunity came at a Sunday dinner with his whole family. Grant bought up his future wiener dog and child named Hank, and I decided to clear this up once and for all. I told him, " seriously, I know you don't like dogs and Hank is a terrible name, so quit bringing it up! I know that you're joking!"
Well, then Sue who has a special gift for striking fear into her Daughter-in Laws' hearts looks at me with absolutely no expression and says, "Hank is a family name."
So, for the past 7 years, I had accepted that whenever we had a boy, he would be named Hank.
Then 3 months ago, when Grant overheard me telling someone that if we had a boy we would name him Henry and call him Hank, he felt it was time to come clean. Turns out Grant doesn't really like that name (Henry I love the name Hank- GJC). It only took him nearly 7 years to come clean! And in that 7 years I kind of grew attached to the name. So now we don't know what to do. Nothing other than Hank feels right. I feel like I'm being asked to change a 7 year old child's name. We have a few names that we're throwing around, but who knows. We just hope he has a name by the time we bring him home from the hospital.  Name or no name, we can't wait for March 3rd when we get to meet this little guy!

Nana and Papa

Way back when, no one can really tell exactly nana and papa came to visit. It was a grand time Hallie was so excited to have new people to love her and give her all their attention. The visit started with Liz throwing up which is why she is not pictured and why I have been given the task of writing a few words of memory.

Above you can see a scene from the national air force museum in Dayton OH. I believe you could say Matt was in heaven and the rest of us really enjoyed ourselves. Hallie had a great time running around those huge rooms with lots of cool things to try and break.

This was a great pic of Hallie with her two new best friends. She was definitely spoiled during their visit and has been ruined ever since. Now she expects us to actually pay attention to her and play and entertain her just like her nana and papa did. We all know that is almost impossible nana and papa have some sort or gift to play and never tire. Also i believe this pic was taken the day our AC broke and that is why Matt looks happy but also a little like he might be overheating.

During the visit nana made us some great new pillows that every one who visits loves. We used the stuffing from our old not so cool pillows for the new ones. I being the thrifty cheap old guy that I am thought why waste to old ones so I made Hallie this great new dress from the old pillows.

We also spent lots of time out at parks and just having fun with each other. Visits from nana and papa are always the best. Hallie still talks about them coming and we can not wait for the next visit. "Papa Sue" as Hallie refers to them, has secured a firm spot in this little girl's heart. It was pretty heartbreaking watching her cry at the door when she watched them drive away, guess they need to make another trip out sooner than later, after all it's not nice to make little girls cry.

I can't believe we almost forgot C.A.D.

Cow Appreciation Day. There's not much else to say about that.

Hershey Vacation 2011

We spent a little time in the best place ever this summer, Hershey PA. Yes I can say we had sweet dreams the entire time we were there. When we were there we decided to try some of the local cuisine so we obviously went to the Olive Garden. Hallie thought this pirate hat mom made was the best thing ever.

This might be my new favorite place in the world. Why you might ask, well all I have to say is CHOCOLATE WORLD. enough said.
As you can see below Hallie also Loved chocolate world. She thought this little display was the greatest thing she had ever seen in her well traveled life.

We also had the pleasure of making her own candy bar while in chocolate world. First things first though was to make things sanitary, little did they know was they were also making things really really adorable as well.

Isn't that just the cutest little Liz you have ever seen. My vote is for hair nets all the time. Anyone else who supports this idea may leave a comment stating such. If you disagree I would encourage you to keep your comments to yourself.
Yes below are the world renowned Hallie and Liz bar unfortunately the Grant bar was deemed too amazing to release to the public.

After all that fun this little lady just could not stay up any longer. 10 minutes before the hotel she passed out and no matter what we did she refused to wake up. Well until we got her into the hotel to take a real nap, then it was party time.

What is the best thing to do after a 10 min nap. Well the obvious choice is to go make your own pretzels in a 5 million degree no A.C. no relief 150 year old building. Well we said heck yes to that idea. Liz actually chipped a tooth on that pretzel.

Hallie was so excited she jumped up and just hung from the sign. Here we are removing her.
The best pretzel maker ever the one the only H.C.

After this Liz made me take a 9 hour car ride home on my birthday. All in all Hershey was sweet!!!
Get it

Growing

 I've recently realized that Hallie's speech might not be as advanced as I have made it out to be in my mind. Rather, I think I have become bilingual in the past 6 months, and am now fluent in "Hallie".

Either way, some of the things that come out of her mouth are pretty hilarious, and I am a little sad each time she discards one of her trademark Hallie-isms for the more widely used English version.
Tonight I realized that she is improving rapidly, and I had better write some of these down while I still remember.

"pissy"= sippy cup
"efalent"= elephant
"Ebislith"= Elizabeth
"dimey"= diamond
"trubby maka"= trouble maker
"luke"= look
"Gant"= Grant (He's not the biggest fan of this one)
"peperogies"= peperoni
"calky milk"= chocolate milk
"bey-ban"= band-aid

"Mom, Mom luke, lilly bidy "= Mom, Mom look, little birdy
"self, Hallie self"= I want to do it by myself.
"no like it"= I don't like it (her current favorite)
"Mommy lil bebe tummy, Hallie bebe tummy, Daddy bebe tummy" = Mommy has a little baby in her tummy, I have a baby in my tummy, and Daddy has a baby in his tummy. (Trying to explain a new baby to a 1 year old is a bit tricky, so now she just thinks everyone has babies in there tummies.)
"fust nap, then Daddy hooome!"= First I'll take a nap, and then Daddy comes home!

The 4th of July

This post should really be titled "Uncle came to visit", because that was all that Hallie cared about. Grant and I enjoyed having Cristy and Troy as well, but in Hallie's world there is only Uncle, aka Nathaniel.

 Hallie and Uncle read,
 Ate icecream,
 And worked on going potty.
 Troy was there too, and was really cute.
 We did go to the 4th of July parade. Luckily Uncle was around to drop elbows, and snag candy for Hallie who got a little overwhelmed by the parade experience.
 This picture was taken about 1 second before Hallie realized we had brought out the "big guns" and that pretty purple "pack-gack" was really a leash, or to be politically correct a "child harness". Well, she was not happy about that one.
 On to happier times, Hallie looked adorable in her patriotic church clothes.
Troy was cute, that seems to be what he does best.

Aunt Cristy was nice enough to indulge Hallie in one last story before they headed back to D.C. We had so much fun hanging out with these guys, and are so glad that they came to visit and spend the 4th with us.

Gatlinburg

My parents came to visit in May, and we decided to plan a little weekend trip to Gatlinburg with them, and my brother Todd and his wife Cathie. It was a fun trip, not long enough, but great to see everyone and enjoy the Smokey Mountains.

 We went on a little hike one day to  Clingmans Dome. It was beautiful, and I think the first time I've seen real mountains since we moved out East.

We had so much fun seeing everyone, shopping, hiking, swimming, and playing a few games of pool, (or "cat herding" as  it was re-named when my mom and I played) at the cabin.

Spring catch-up

Wow, once again we're playing catch-up. This Summer has been super crazy and busy for us, but there will be more on that later. This is a mish-mash of pictures that I had left from Spring.

 Hallie spent most of her time outside playing with the neighbor kids. We are so glad that for the most part all of the neighbor kids are really sweet, and love to play with Hallie. We do have our suspicions about the occasional "snack-stealer", and the "toy-mooch", but I think when your dealing with 5-7 year olds, they are going to have some ulterior motives when seeking a 1 year olds friendship. Either way, Hallie seems to be oblivious to being used for her popsicles and sprinkler, and just loves that the big kids want her to "play" with them.

 Hallie also spent a good portion of the Spring, "roughed-up". The poor girl constantly thinks she is bigger than she really is, and carried scrapes and bruises for months while she learned her limits. The picture above came from a fall on the driveway.

We pulled out the sprinkler one of the two days that it didn't rain this Spring. I didn't think Hallie would be that interested in it so I didn't bother to change her into her swim suit, and boy was I wrong! Hallie hesitated for about 15 seconds and then started running through the water screaming and giggling. She loves anything with water we've found, and has absolutely no fear.

This picture just cracks me up. Hallie ate all of the nubs off of the bottom of her apple, maybe you had to be there...

We went camping with friends, and had a great time! Hotdogs and s'mores= fun!

Hallie and her buddy Evan, jumping around in the tent.
Pancakes also = fun!

Hallie's been working on her skills with a spoon and a fork.

Sometimes she gets a little frustrated and decided that she doesn't need a utensil.
And, as always she is still the cutest kid in the whole world, even if that world is always a little "sticky" with her in it!
